Curriculum and Learning at Daisy’s Early Learning and Care

At Daisy’s Early Learning and Care in Southern River, our early learning centre is built around curiosity, connection and care. We provide calm and engaging environments where children can explore through play and discovery, supported by educators who listen and guide with purpose.

Everything we do is grounded in our values of Listen, Love, Laugh and Learn, helping each child grow in confidence, curiosity and belonging. These values shape our curriculum, our teaching and the way we build relationships with families across our community.

Our Play-Based Learning Approach

Children learn best when they feel safe, understood and inspired. Our educators see every child as capable and curious, encouraging them to ask questions, share ideas and explore their world through meaningful experiences.

By slowing down and giving children the time to observe, imagine and create, we help them develop skills for lifelong learning such as confidence, independence, empathy and joy. Our play-based learning programs are designed to help children learn at their own pace, supported by guidance, trust and positive relationships.

Play and Family Partnerships in Early Learning

Play is central to everything we do at Daisy’s. Our play-based curriculum supports creativity, confidence and emotional wellbeing while helping children build essential social and cognitive skills. Through play, children practise decision-making, communication and teamwork in ways that feel natural and joyful.

We also recognise that families are a child’s first and most important teachers. As a trusted childcare provider in Southern River, we work closely with parents to understand each child’s needs, strengths and routines, ensuring that learning at Daisy’s feels familiar and consistent.

By sharing updates, goals and achievements, we create strong partnerships that support each child’s development. Together, families and educators build the foundation for lifelong learning — filled with confidence, curiosity and connection.

Educational Influences
Our approach combines insights from Reggio Emilia, Montessori and Inquiry-Based Learning to create a well-rounded early learning philosophy that celebrates curiosity, independence and respect.
Inquiry-Based Learning
Inquiry invites curiosity. Children explore questions, test ideas and reflect on what they discover. It helps them become thinkers, problem-solvers and active participants in their own learning journey.
Montessori
Independence is at the heart of the Montessori philosophy. Children are encouraged to make choices, care for their surroundings and engage in hands-on activities that build responsibility and concentration.
Reggio Emilia
Children are seen as capable learners with their own perspectives. Educators observe and document their interests, turning them into collaborative projects that build confidence and communication.

Our Curriculum Framework

Our curriculum follows the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), Australia’s national standard for early childhood education. This framework guides how we plan, teach and support learning for every age group, recognising that children learn through relationships, play and participation in their environment.

We focus on five key outcomes that build a strong foundation for school and life:

  • A strong sense of identity
  • Connection with community and culture
  • Wellbeing and confidence
  • Active involvement in learning
  • Effective communication

At Daisy’s, these outcomes are woven into daily routines, shared experiences and opportunities for discovery.
